Audra McDonald's artistry is unmatched in her range of talents and variety as a vocalist, and actor. Record-breaking six times recipient at the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards in addition to an Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. A stunning singer, with an unparalleled talent for dramatic truth telling, Ms. O'Connor has a natural on Broadway as well as the opera stage and in the world of television. As well as performing on stage, she has earned a name for herself in a professional career that is a major recording and concert career. She regularly performs at top venues. McDonald was born into a musical family in Fresno, California. She underwent classical vocal training at the Juilliard School of New York. One year after graduation McDonald won her Tony Award Best Performance for an Actress in Musical Lead for her performance in Carousel for Lincoln Center Theater. In the subsequent four years she received two more Tony Awards under the featured actress category. The awards were given in recognition of her Broadway performance in Terrence McGally's productions Master Class and Ragtime. In 2004 she won her fourth Tony starring alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012, she took home her fifth--and her first for the category of leading actress for her performance as the title character for her role in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. As the Tony Awards' most decorated performer, she was able to set Broadway history when she was awarded her sixth Tony Award for playing Billie Holiday as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. This part also gave her the opportunity to make the Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. As well as setting the record for most awards won by actors in competition, she also became the first person to receive awards for all four categories of acting. The credits for McDonald's theatre work includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut, Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical sensation of 1921 & All That Followed (2017) Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald was introduced to the TV audience for her dramatic performance in Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say the Delany Sisters first 100 years. In 1999, she co-starred with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had a recurring part in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. McDonald was awarded her debut Emmy for her part in The HBO remake of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she returned to the screen, this time with Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., starring Josh Brolin. In early 2006 she joined The Bedford Diaries' cast on The Bedford Diaries on the WB. The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had a recurring role on NBC's television series Kidnapped. McDonald's character in HBO film Lady Day At Emerson Bar Restaurant earned her a four-time Emmy nomination in 2016. The Bite was a six episode pandemic themed drama produced through Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald appeared as U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first was seen in CBS's The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. She reprised this role in 2018, as season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. In recognition of the role she played, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominations. McDonald guest-stars on Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
